In FoFty’s six dimensional model of reality, the Material dimension appears to be the most straightforward and simplest to understand. It essentially consists of everything outside of the internal sanctum where our minds dwell. It is the physical reality we interface with, and includes the ground we walk on, the stars up in the sky, the air we are breathing, the photons from the light shining on our eyes, our heart pumping within our bodies, and so on.
In our model, the Material universe is the first dimension for a reason: it is the most tangible, observable, and comprehensible component of what we call reality. It serves an important function, which is to gather us together as we embark on our journey.
Let me illustrate its function: who among you will deny the rules of classical physics such as F = ma and of relativity such as E = mc2 - are we all aboard?
The first truth we must acknowledge is that when we interact with the material dimension, the vast majority of it is outside of our sphere of control and exists in absoluteness. We live within the boundaries and rules defined by this first material dimension. The speed of light cannot be altered, and we cannot change Planck’s constant.
These rules are governed by the operating system of the material dimension, and the operating system has multiple functioning levels with rules that interoperate with each other, just like your computer or phone. At the highest level are applications that we are familiar with - high level programs that have user interfaces and are designed for us to interact with. We are able to observe and take input from these high level programs through perception, which is the second dimension we shall discuss later.
Google Chrome, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, etc. - these are all high level applications we are familiar with and use. They are akin to the weather, tides, etc. that we are familiar with and interact with in the material dimension.
Underneath these shiny applications, are layers upon layers of lower level programs that enable the processing of the higher level applications. We have learned to harness some of these lower level programs directly, such as gravity and nuclear energy.
At the lowest level, or the core, is something called the kernel. All operating systems have this kernel - Windows, MacOS, iOS, Android, Linux, etc. The kernel, generally speaking, has complete control over the entire system through all the programs stacked and layered above it.
Most recently, humans have discovered the existence of the kernel for the material dimension - and have labelled it Quantum Physics. The more we learn about this kernel, the more baffled we become, as we should.
If you take a typical software developer who creates websites and tell that person to then look at the kernel of MacOS and make sense out of it, that developer will get lost real quick. The code in the kernel is written in low level programming languages that can include something called Assembly which is basically machine code - it’s unintelligible to humans.
Now, tell the casual website visitor (e.g. someone who isn’t a software developer) to look at the kernel’s code and make sense out of it.
Not convinced? Let me take you for a quick spin…
In 2022, John Clauser, Alain Aspect and Anton Zeilinger won the Nobel Prize for Physics by proving that the universe is not locally real. We now know, without a doubt, that particles do not have definite local properties independent of observation. It turns out, particles are not actually real until they are measured by an observer - until such an observation takes place, particles are not in a definite state, and thus not “real.”
Without getting too deep into the science, conceptually speaking, until the apple is observed by something, it doesn’t… exist.
What is mind blowing is that this is now an irrefutable fact - at least at the subatomic level - because we have developed sophisticated enough instruments to eradicate any and all doubt.
Simulation Rendering Machines
The more scientific evidence we gather, the more we realize that everything is not actually what it appears to be. The recently proven fact that the material dimension, at least at the sub-atomic particle scale, doesn’t exist until it is locally observed is truly astonishing.
Now, replace “observed” with “rendered” and you will see how we could be “rendering machines,” going about this material dimension and rendering (or observing, thus making real) things around us.
We have even created basic rendering devices ourselves - they are called virtual reality goggles. They render a simulated reality in real time when you put them on, and the reality they render is a unified reality that is shared by others who put on their goggles and join the same experience.
We are simply rendering agents, interacting with the universe and dynamically “rendering reality” as we stumble along. Science is pushing us towards, not against, this realization. “Simply” would be an understatement though, because our bodies - which include our brains - are phenomenally sophisticated rendering agents as we shall see in future articles that go through the six dimensions of reality.
The question of “whom” we are rendering this simulation for will be discussed in the sixth and final dimension of awareness, where FoFty ends and faith begins.
To summarize, the material dimension is the base physical layer, with a universal operating system that generates a simulation with rules outside of our control. We interact with and render the simulation through observation, measurement, and thought.
We have started with the most tangible form of physical reality - one that we can see, touch, feel and hold - and yet it turns out that even the most basic of all dimensions may not even be what we thought it to be.
What about the other five dimensions then?
This is going to get very interesting.
